PCIe - analog inputs and outputs for the PCIe bus from Messcomp®

What is an analog-to-digital converter?

The term A/D converter refers to a component for converting analog input signals into a digital data stream that can be processed by the computer. There are various conversion methods that differ mainly in terms of speed, accuracy and noise immunity. This is why, for example, different conversion methods are used for temperature measurement and fast signal sampling. The A/D converter is the basic requirement for the computer to be able to process the analog input signals from a wide variety of sensors.

What is a digital-to-analog converter?

The term D/A converter refers to a component that converts the computer's digital data into an analog signal. This analog output signal can then be used to control a speed controller or other components with a voltage input.

What is galvanic isolation or potential separation?

The term galvanic isolation or potential separation refers to the avoidance of cables between two circuits. The exchange of signals between the two circuits takes place via electrically non-conductive coupling elements. Potential separation is used in PC cards mainly to protect the computer and in very high-quality analog measuring methods to avoid interference (current loops, etc.).

PCIe cards with analog inputs and outputs for measuring and controlling

The PCIe cards from Messcomp® with up to 16 isolated analog inputs, digital inputs and outputs with and without potential separation are ideal for use in the laboratory as well as in industrial control. The analog inputs have the input voltage ranges of up to +/- 10 volts and sampling rates of up to 100 kHz that are common in professional control technology. These PCIe cards usually have a connector with inputs and outputs for switching purposes. The inputs and outputs are available either in TTL level or as opto-decoupled transistors. The TTL inputs and outputs are preferably used with the KM modules with potential separation to minimize interference. The PC cards with PCI bus are increasingly being replaced by the PCI Express bus. For new developments, we recommend the use of PCIe-bus-cards from Messcomp®.
